Groups' contribution to shaping ethnic residential segregation: a dynamic approach

چکیده
Abstract Some have argued it is possible to infer different groups’ contributions ethnic residential segregation from their individual neighborhood preferences. From this perspective, natives tend be more segregation-promoting than non-natives, since they prefer neighborhoods where are the majority. It remains unclear, however, whether holds when one evaluates within a dynamic perspective. Using register data Statistics Sweden, I define and model ten behavior based on ethnicity family composition. thereby simulate mobility of full population Stockholm municipality residents 1998 2012. Even though my results at micro-level consistent with previous studies, simulation show that foreign singles’ patterns any other groups, group shows greater in-group feedback effect regarding choice new neighborhoods, an increases flow low-to-high segregated progressively. My suggest (1) integration initiatives would efficient if focused particular (2) proper evaluation micro-behaviors’ implications for macro-patterns requires approach accounting heterogeneous behaviors main interdependencies shaping over time.

Ethnic Residential Segregation: A Multilevel, Multigroup, Multiscale Approach Exemplified
We develop and apply a multilevel modeling approach that is simultaneously capable of assessing multigroup and multiscale segregation in the presence of substantial stochastic variation that accompanies ethnicity rates based on small absolute counts. Bayesian MCMC estimation of a log-normal Poisson model allows the calculation of the variance estimates of the degree of segregation in a single o...

متن کاملThe Measure of Residential Segregation of Socio-Economic Groups by Using Multigroup Indices in Shiraz City
Urban segregation has been a problem of many cities of the world. Many researchers have interested in the urban segregation issues. Urban segregation has strongly concentrated poverty and created underclass. Different types of urban segregation exist, including income and racial or ethnical segregation, and depending on the contextual mechanisms within a city. To understand and plan a better co...

BACKGROUND Previous research suggests that neighborhood-level racial/ethnic residential segregation is linked to health, but it has not been studied prospectively in relation to cardiovascular disease (CVD). METHODS AND RESULTS Participants were 1595 non-Hispanic black, 2345 non-Hispanic white, and 1289 Hispanic adults from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis free of CVD at baseline (ag...
